Interesting terminology the "Heinz 57" LOL - But wait a sec... Who the hell's James? Did I miss something?!?!?

Anyway - I was reading a funny-as-hell article about the Dave Matthews Band LOL --- Apparently "It's the whitest band ever, which is saying something considering 3 of the members are black, and Dave Matthews is literally an African American - He was born in South Africa."

Don't know what this tidbit brings to the discussion - but I think it's quite ironic LOL - I've heard the Dave Matthews Band and I do have to agree - It is the whitest band ever

Anyway - lol...... Yeah... Kinda interesting....

My question to everyone...does it matter what color the author's skin is if the novel is well written?

We chatted briefly about this and I have to say I'm quite astonished. I think we of the literary genre (and artistic world in general) pride ourselves on being above the petty grievances of racial discrimination, sexism, homophobia, ageism, etcetera... At least I do...

And I'd have to say I've read a lot of drivvle in my lifetime. Some of it I've had the pleasure of writing myself LOL... At anyrate - If one can write about the Black Experience with an authentic voice, making the plot, theme, characters real... Why the hell wouldn't he or she be able to publish? That's insane - Whoever told her that is most likely an IDIOT. And I'll tell ya - Idiocy is more colorblind than Helen Keller was.

It's like telling me that I as a female cannot write anything from a male perspective. Doesn't that sound both irrational and senile? I think yes.

Jacquii.

btw - The attached image is a pic of African American Dave Matthews.
