Outsider, looking in.
This week's homework on the bush poetry site I go to was .. Outsider, looking in.
OUTSIDER, LOOKING IN
Leonie Parker - © - Thursday, 28 August 2008
There’s a face outside the window
With a dark and evil grin
Cloaked in night and mystery;
Outsider, looking in!
A face that invites terror,
So the fears and doubts begin
And sleep is surely banished;
Outsider, looking in!
Can that be bat wings beating?
Or some unearthly kin
With wings and teeth and talons;
Outsider, looking in!
Is this some sort of punishment?
For unrepentant sin,
Or just imagination.
Outsider, looking in!
Pull up the blankets quickly
And hide yourself within.
Pray it’s gone next time you peek.
Outsider, looking in!
Or maybe gain dutch courage
Pour a stiff tonic and gin
And face the bloody possum
Outsider, looking in!
