On Wednesday, January 18 -- JPiC Forum for Writers joined hundreds of websites in what was the largest online protest in history, a strike against the under-consideration internet legislations SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act), both of which would heap a level of censorship upon the online community, the likes of which have never been seen before.
As a non-censorship community, JPiC was "blacked out" for 24 hours. We're back online now though and hope our involvement has...

JPiC Forum Has Its Spotlight On [....] |
Featured Artist: Jake MinickWe're proud to showcase the writing of JPiC Forum member Jake Minick of Cumberland, Maryland. Mr. Minick, a self-described INFP personality type -- Introverted iNtuitive Feeling Perceiving -- has been writing poetry for some ten years now. He generously shares a bit of his creative process with us: "Poetry is a natural outlet for me, as I am inept at expressing my inner thoughts and feelings publicly. When I become creatively active, something sparks and my intuition turns up like an ethereal magnet, searching for things to synthesize."
Jake found poetry in his late teens after a few years of weed and L.S.D. had widened his perception to the point of neurosis. "Or maybe it was just the realization of 'grisly reality' from turning eighteen," he says, reflecting on his love of poetry. "Either way, I needed a way to express my angst with the world."
When asked to further expand the reasoning behind why he began writing poetry Mr. Minick answers quickly with, "I fell in love with the way artists and musicians were able to reflect these 'shadowed perceptions' [of life] that are so baffling to express. Poetry seems to be the creative evolution of language. I'm just trying to add a little bit to the pot."
We at JPiC imagine all Poets' subconscious will manifest itself in some meaningful way. "I may as well try to form [my writing] into something that helps people -- or at least entertains us -- by offering a fresh perspective," Jake concludes. A poetic balm indeed; Poetry does indeed have a therapeudic effect on those who admire it most, and even on those who come to it for whatever reason. We thank Mr. Minick for sharing his artistic therapy with us, for his creative expressions have definitely made our medicinal pot-of-poetry so much more thick, gooey & delicious. RevolverOriginal Poetry By Jake Minick
The egotistical tendons tighten
With each intake
of orbiting elements.
In this material waltz of burning fate.
As energies entwine
A light shines,
Warming the bodies.
Their dreams wrestle in a playful hate.
The burning continues
As they circle in sleep
And the shining pries
On the core of their sight.
A virgin perspective
With mirrored emotion.
In the ocean of fire
The chemicals fight.
The tendons snap
As intensity peaks.
Pining for mass
Of this most boastful fuel.
The once warm glow
Now, an emotional nova,
Leaves the remains of a body
For the blackened to pull…
"Excuse me, could you please move? You’re stepping on my reflection…"
"Yes, thank you… No, it’s ok. Just don’t step on my reflection… Here… Please take this 8 by 10 of me and hang it on the inside of your head."

JPiC Forum For Writers Is Consistently Voted Fabulous |
Writer's Digest 101 Best WebsitesJPiC earned its first coveted spot on the prestigious Writers Digest Best Websites for Writers list in 2008. We were chosen again for placement in the 2009, 2010 & 2011 lists for consistently “providing such great services to the writing community.” We share this award with our Members for help in creating what is easily one of the best communites for writers on the web. JPiCans do it in color and we do it well!
vBulletin.org Board of the MonthCongratulations are in order. JPiC Forum has won the first vBulletin.org BotM competition for 2011! We are super-excited that our new forum design has met the approval of fellow board Administrators. The voting was extremely close, and as such, it's an honor in itself for JPiC to have been included in such esteemed company. But we took home the blue ribbon, having edged out the competition by 2 votes. Our new site design -- quite fondly dubbed JPiC 3.0 -- has been sculpted by JPiC Forum Webmistress & graphic designer, Jacquii Cooke.
