HEATWAVE & SHOPPING VENT...:)

Posted 09-03-2007 at 05:08 AM by nomadicrhymer
So I'm sitting here at 12:44AM on Monday morning in my bra and...won't say what else...because? It is uncharacteristically hot...extremely off the charts toasting my buns HOT HOT HOT!!! Not normal California weather...why? Because we cannot handle it, obviously...yesterday was spent in the pool, AFTER spending untold amounts of tortured hours SHOPPING! Back to school...and why do children feel that there has to be a new wardrobe, because heaven help us if their friends see a jeans or shirt from LAST YEAR! (Horrors!!) It is just NOT done...then guess what? An earthquake list as long as my legs...which are pretty long, I'll have you know...but I digress...I feel that Labor Day sales were invented by pure evil....I hate shopping...hate waiting for anyone to try on clothes (I never do) AND I hate depleting my bank account most of all. Is it because I don't ever shop that the sparkling DELIGHT shot out of both my girls' eyes at the mention of "new clothes"...one would think they just won the lotto...wow! 8-10 shirts and 4-5 bottoms later, socks, undies and school supplies...and I can rest on my "magnificent mother" laurel for the rest of the year...maybe even all the way through to Easter!!! And don't forget the 3 pairs of shoes apiece...thank goodness for Payless buy one get one half off sale! Ok, so I guess it wasn't THAT horrible, having them be so happy over a few piddle pieces of cloth...I guess I should take myself shopping too? Ha! right...that would be right after the youngest graduates.

So instead I treated myself to a manicure and pedicure, and went to visit my cousin who has colon cancer...sat with her about 3 1/2 hours while watching Tiger do horrible in the golf tournament, and tennis - thank heavens Venus won to move up for the US Open (is that what it's called?) I guess she watches a lot of TV to keep her occupied...stuff I never get to see because if I sit for any length of time in the living room, it's to be on JPiC!

anyway all her hair has fallen out because of the chemo....she has numb hands and feet...has to turn in her car next week because of no income...ergo, no car, no rent, no anything! I have offered her to date 4 times, to come live with me, but have been refused...but it's an open invite so maybe one day she will figure out she can't do it on her own...hopefully soon...as it is now she live in L.A. (the city) and I am approx. 45 miles away, so I could help her a lot more with everything if she were closer...like...IN the house!? Anyway, it has to be her decision...me, if I let myself have my way...would have packed up all her stuff long ago...sold it or put it in storage...and moved her in...and her head would still be spinning...but SINCE she is at Stage 4 cancer, and it's spreading on her liver and lymph nodes, well...I have contained myself and been nice and polite...and also relegated myself to be "listener" only, occasionally jumping in with a little suggestion here and there. She has never, in the last 11 years since her husband moved out with the neighbor...taken a suggestion of mine...all common sense, mind you...and therefore has been in one pickle after another...not to mention having stomach problems for 3 years and refusing to see another doctor! Oh well...too late to cry about it now...can only stand by and be "company"....

Geez!! What on earth am I still rambling on for? and I was laughing at this whole blog thing!!

Ok, I'll try not to do that again...talk about b o r i n g!!!!

Therese

--- 1st things 1st! Shopping! Sounds like a good time was at least had by the GIRLS --- Yes - Thank the gods for places like Payless LOL - and WALMART tehehehe....

So sorry to hear about your cousin though - that must be tough - I know it is! My Auntie passed a few years back after battling breast cancer - My favorite Auntie! AND when I was in highschool my Grandmama passed after battling colon cancer! One of the roughest times in my life - so I can relate... One thing you said though that sounds so very familiar AND good commonsense: ...also relegated myself to be "listener" only, occasionally jumping in with a little suggestion here and there. Yep - sometimes that's the only thing that can be done...

Now - I bet you felt good after posting that blog eh? Even if it's burning up in CALI

OMG, I hate depleting my bank account too! I'm so cheap to save the money that I have that it's rather pathetic... I just hate losing my money and love gaining it and keeping it.

I'm so sorry to hear about your cousin... my grandmother who I never met passed away from colon cancer before I was born. I always wanted to meet her though, she was quite a hoot of a woman it sounded like and I'm sure she would have loved me too. (How can you not? I always ask myself, lol.)

Anywho, blogging is all about blabbing! It should be called blobbing, lol.
