Poetry Slam

I just got done with my first ever real, crazy, fun, absolutely amazing Poetry Slam. No, I didn't read any poems, I felt a tug to hop up on that stage, even if they booed me, hissed me, stomped their feet at me, I could do it... If there is anything that I am so confedient about with my writing much more so than anything else it's my Poetry.
I love to write poems, I need to write poems, while I was at this event, which went from 7 pm to 10 pm, I was struck with 3 different poem ideas that were specifically the style to be read at this Poetry Slam. What I felt like the other people were doing but with my own spin to it.
I want to do this, I want to read one of my poems, but not only read it, but memorize it. I want to recite my poem with passion, confedience, and pride. Even if they don't like it you know what I say to that?
Screw them, because I'm proud of my poetry. It may not be their cup of tea and that's just fine with me. (I know, I inadvertanly rhymed with that).
The thrill of it could probably be compared to me jumping over a jump with Mandy but this is sooo much scarier... yet, I'm less scared of the people as I am with the mic. I never, ever, have used mics at all and I'm specifically not confedient with them. Or, hell, how to adjust them. I think that if I do it I'll be sure to be prepared with it, recite it over and over again, but I think I wanna do it.
It was too much fun though just listening to the poets and I just had a blast!!

Ah! Sounds like you had a wonderful time! And you know one of the secrets of poetry slams - It's not so mcuh the content of the poem that matters as much as the passion and confidence and humor the poem is recited with

Oh, I had such a wonderful time! The place I went to was actually the first place that started poetry slams so they're really passionate about it. It was crazy fun and they had poetry readings and at the end poetry slams. The poetry reading they were pretty nice but with the slam they started snapping their fingers, stomping their feet, and finally hissing with at least two of the readers. They're encouraged to make noise if they like it or make noise if they don't like it and if it's a rhyming poem they can guess the next rhyme and say it if the rhyming is really obvious.
But, that's true, you do get some brownie points for being passionate, confedient, and humorous when you speak your poem. I swear, confedience is a biggie because those people can smell fear! I still wanna do it though because I'm confedient about my poems and think that it'd be a great experience to have such a tough crowd and recite my poem. Now, the hard thing is picking which one and memorizing it the best I can. ~Sarah |

Hmmm - I'd have to take a water gun with me just incase they didn't like LOL - then I would just squirt water at the crowd
Sounds like a pretty tough one actually.Whenever you do decide - let us know so we can be a support system for you! Cause I know reading a poem in public in such an interesting setting can be quite difficult and I know I'd appreciate the support ![]() Jacquii. |
