Poor, poor kitty

Oh, wow, this is a good day but I'll start it with the bad because I feel so damn guilty over it. One of the barn cats at the stable was in my horse's way when I was walking her and the poor thing got badly stepped on by her. Its skin was scratched right off on the two back legs and I feel so, so horrible. I know it was an accident but I'm afraid the cat will be put down because she stepped on it and I should have moved the cat out of the way, I should have done something.

The guilt I feel is unexplainable.

What's even worse is that the cat and this other one always come to see me when they hear my voice. It is a really sweet cat but he just had no fear of horses and generally gets in the way of them and doesn't run away when they're coming. I'm afraid to go to the stable because I don't know how I'll be able to stop myself from crying if the cat was put down.

He ran away after it happened and I went to find him to see what his injuries were and it was so awful. I just started crying and crying and I couldn't stop because of the guilt and how hurt the poor cat was.

I know it was an accident, I did all I could, I called the stable owner and she said that that was the cat they thought was dying because it hasn't put on any weight lately. We made the offer to take the cat to the hospital but she said no so I let him go and he walked and he limped so badly and it just broke my heart. It feels like my heart is still broken from watching it and it was just a horrible thing to happen and I'm so sorry it happened to the poor cat.
