Autumn Walking Summer Home

Autumn Walking Summer Home

August's heat bows to September's cool,
with green leaves threatening to turn
to vibrant red and Midas-gold;
the World pauses on the threshold
between two seasons; so we learn
that he who resists should be called " Fool".
For who can stop the sweet Autumn breeze
from gently walking Summer home
and leaving kiss on sun-warmed cheek?
The whispering winds through bent boughs speak
of passing evenings when we'd roam
through fields of wildflow'rs with hearts at ease.
And so the dried leaves now are scattered
as we hesitantly shuffle
down the road that leads to goodbye.
Do not look back. Do not ask why.
As leaves are joyful in their scuffle,
just laugh and play as if naught mattered.

Hey AMAZON - Seems there is more to this poem than just the nature theme. A phrase I like very much comes to mind when I read this poem: The Joy Of Naivete.

Your poem is so carefree - I enjoyed this one immensely, as I am definitely a lover of the Autumn breeze.

Thanx for sharing

Jacquii.

Love the imagery in this and especially in your choice of title! It left me feeling a little wistful and nostalgic (down the road that leads to good-bye - great line!) and I also like how it ends with some great advice. Thanks for posting!

Excellently written, Amazon. I love the flow, and the rhyme scheme comes across fluently and subtly. Thank-you.
