Cage Bird
Whatever be the reason for your colours or your song
Amounts to nothing when you're trapped where you belong,
When beauty is your only crime where you live out your role,
So your world is forced to change winging to your water hole.
So when the trap comes down it's all over,
You've been taken out of natures plan,
From the vastness of your country to a cage upon a stand,
From your feeding grounds and breeding grounds…
To be admired by man.
If the country that surrounds you is a dry and dusty red,
We can take the danger from you, and everything you dread,
To give you a life of leisure and your basic needs required,
Well protected behind wire, where you’re bored but so admired.
If you're rare and hard to find with you're numbers being few,
We'll keep you in heated cages and four walls for you to view,
We'll do everything we can to keep you here upon the earth,
Of course, guilty bird it all depends, upon what you are worth.
So when the trap comes down it's all over,
You've been taken out of natures plan,
You have lost the comfort of Mother Nature’s breast,
Singing your melodic stories, in avian laboratories…
To be admired by man.

Hi Lindsay,
It does seem rather a shame to take them out of their natural habitat, and it's hard to know whether it's good for them or not. There are some people that fit that profile as well. Thanks for posting.

G'day Terence...
Trapping around water holes wiped out finch populations in some areas, and a large percentage died in overcrowded dealers cages. Thank God it's banned now.
