Closet

Closet

She shoves a blow-up doll
into the closet,
palm of hand pressing
against her red lips,
pushing - shoving her back.
The tight plastic gives,
until her last bulge recedes,
behind the door.
She presses with her shoulder
until the latch catches,
turns the key.
He comes,
as expected,
fiddles with the lock.
The door flings open.
She springs out.
White plastic limbs expand
jabbing his eye,
with her painted nail.

This is one of my favorite poems. I guess the blow-up doll scares people.
To me she is a symbol of a female form - attractive to men for sexual reasons.
I've posted it in a critique forum and had several interesting responses. Most people read it as anger, which in a way it is. In that sense, this is basically about people minding their own business. I had a couple people say this sounds like a man should write it, but I disagree. The pressing of bulges makes me think of gaining weight. The white plastic also brought to mind plastic surgery. I haven’t had any plastic surgery, but might in another 10-15 years. In a way I think she is me stuffed in the closet, waiting for the next great man to come along. I’ve had rotten luck with men in my life. LOL, I don’t know really, I was just foolin around with words and images.
