Dad’s Song

Dad’s Song

I was just a wee little lad,
playing ball with my brothers and dad,
good times could always be had,
he’s being with me and I’m glad.

Those were such innocent days,
playing in innocent ways,
living and learning life,
learning and living life,
learning how to play the games.

Woke me up in the morning twilight,
singing; boys you better make flight,
‘cause we're going to the fishing hole,
I’ll show you how to bait your pole.

Tickling me till I nearly cried,
taking me for a piggy back ride,
singing; boy you better hang on,
‘cause this ride is gonna be long.

Gave me my first ball and bat,
gave me a glove and got me my hat,
said: boy you need to learn to swing the bat and to run,
got to learn to catch the ball and have some fun.

Taught me how to tell right from wrong,
taught me what is weak and what’s strong,
said; boy you got to always try to do what is right,
sometimes that means you’re going to have to fight.

Helped me with my homework at school,
showed me how to use his slide rule.
Said; boy you have to learn how to read and try to spell,
If you want to play the game of life and do real well.

Those were such innocent days,
playing in innocent ways,
living and learning life,
learning and living life,
learning how to play the games.

I’m older now with my own little lads,
miss playing ball with my brothers and dad,
just happy for the good times that we had,
though he’s gone he’s still with me and I’m glad.

George

Very touching and shows a great appreciation for the father, all in time for father's day. Nice job George =]

I agree with Karen and Chelsea! It's a great write! So touching! Learning to live, living to learn, your father taught you well and now you're teaching your sons while thinking of your father and how he taught you and your brothers.

I wish my father had been as kind and loving as yours.

hugs,
Gail
