Early Haiku (1975)

the sky hides the sun
forever cloudy, there is
no reason to be
~
a tree fell down, up
on me, it’s still there! the
leaves are colorful
~
moving through the trees
a silent elk, so silent
death in two minutes
~
observing nature
in it’s purist form, I see
men and women too

Dear Kit,

Ahhh such lovely Haiku...I think Haiku is one of the most beautiful and expressive poetic forms. I also love very short forms that pack a punch. These are quite lovely Kit. What time, experience, or mindset do these represent that you can share?

Kim

I do love your perception of events. These are actualy my first and only attempts at haiku until the recent ones you have seen. They were written for poetry class. I can't remember which came first, the book or these haiku, but I can't write a haiku without thinking about the book and the person who gave it to me. Kate Samuels gave me her copy of the book "Haiku In English" and I'm holding it in one hand right now. I'll say no more.

Thank you Mysty and Moonchild. That is my favorite also. These were written in class, as assignments and are among my first attempts ever at any form of poetry. I think that is why Kate gave me the book. She wanted me to write more.

Oh MY! What a nice collection of haiku - Destined for publishing on Poetry-Defined.com indeed when I'm not so lazy LOL

I particularly loved this stanza as it shows an unfettered optimism of sorts - possibly even naive hope - And I'm all about my naivete... To think the tree fell upon me... The first thing I notice is the colorful leaves... That is SO me LOL - And so Tennessee actually - The colors in TN when the autumn comes = Amazing!

A very nice write MIKE = Thanx for sharing it!

Jacquii.
