The Final War
Just rocks and sand, and barren land,
And waves, that lash the shore,
Where all is still, and life is nil,
Where man’s not walked before.
Then God so kind, with man in mind,
Created him from soil,
He gave him then, a female friend,
And rested from his toil.
Their hearts were pure, safe and secure,
Within the sight of God,
But discontent, their virtue spent,
They left the path they trod.
Ensuing years brought many tears,
"DEATH," dominates the earth,
One brighter day, alas, the way,
For man, a second birth.
Man did rejoice, and with his voice,
He vowed that he'd repent,
Self-pride and greed, both evil seed,
AGAIN, man's discontent.
The sword and spear produce much fear,
Our enemy we've slain,
Then soon, the gun, the battles won,
A victory to claim.
The thunderous boom, spells certain doom,
A cannon ball's been tossed,
The cry of pain and once again,
Many lives are lost.
Then war machines, a fleet of ships,
The sky soon filled with planes,
Battles fought, all seems for naught,
Then bombs appear as rain.
Ingenious man, still had a plan,
A bomb, much bigger yet,
Two cities die; we moan and cry,
Over this, our latest threat.
Then missiles came, and war, a game,
Can peace be at the door?
As hopes increase, for lasting peace,
There came, "The Final War."
Just rocks and sand, and barren land,
And waves, that lash the shore,
Where all is still and life is nil,
Where man exists no more.

Hi RON - wow! For some reason I like this piece. The content is kinda dismal, but then again - much better and more poetic than anything I saw on the evening news this evening...
The rhythm of your poem is quite nice, though some lines seem to be missing a beat... The rhyme schematic is right on point! Sounds natural, almost as if spoken by the anchorman...
The quoted above is repeated in both the 1st and last stanza ----> The repetition works very nicely - Good poem! Thanx for sharing it with us
Breathtaking!
The imagery in this poem was very vivid.
Emotions flowed, and drowned out the words as I read this one over and over again.
Great work Ron!

Dear Ron,
This poem leaves one utterly speechless!!! The rhythmic patterns, and repetition add to the strength of this piece. The pictures it paints is to behold. You have captured my interest from top to bottom, and around again, as one cannot just read this once. Well executed, structurally sound, and beautifully written. Phenomenal Ron, just phenomenal, Thank you for sharing this piece with us. Take Care.

Sally & Kim,
To both of you, I truly appreciate your comments on my poem. I thank you both. We all write for several reasons but two of them are a compelling desire to create and to create something that is enjoyed by others. I know this is a dismal poem but life can be very dismal at times. I have long been a lover of Biblical prophesy and while I hold out great hope for the future I fear there are going to be some very dark days ahead. Again, thank your for taking the time to read and comment.
Ron
