Flash of Darkness

Flash of Darkness
Foot steps echo empty halls,
candelabras flicker, a spirits breath
brings sweat beads to her flesh.
She begins to toss, wakes,
follows her heart beat
into the dark garden.
A crow on the roof top flutters, a fright
to masters touch at her finger tip.
It flies to tree tops warning others.
She laughs without sound.
Toad and cricket songs carry on the wind,
and wolves howl a beckon to her soul.

across the courtyard,
Castle gates raise high,
jagged iron spikes detour visitors.
he steps barefoot through dry leaves,
her satin gown flows with gusts
that toss leaves across the path.
She wraps one hand round the cold steal
bar as the other finds,
resting against the warmth
of her beating heart,
a skeleton key on silver chain.
She lets herself through.

A full moon plays lost and found
behind gray clouds that drift
swiftly over the dark forest.
Wind draws all in its path toward him.
He waits at the entrance to eternity
his red collared cape flaps
against a black winged steed
that steps impatiently, frothing mouth,
steaming nostrils.
She runs in small steps, calling:
"My love, my love,"
reaching for him. Without thought,
she's with him, arms wrapped tight
all of passion pressed to him.
They disappear in a flash of darkness.

The descriptives are fascinating! I could envision all as the details are so vibrant and believable. The storem (story + poem) as I call it...is executed well and tis well written. I love the build up and the classic element of this piece. Vladimir and maiden disappear in a "Flash of Darkness"! I love love love this, excellent raiting, and going into my favorites! Awesome storem!
