OK - so one of the writing groups I belong to had an interesting writing challenge - The challenge was to write a 20 line poem or memoir about a tree... So the 1st thing that came to mind (NATURALLY ) was the crazy JPiC Christmas Tree we "decorated" Christmas Holiday 2006... Anyway - I was inspired so.... Enjoy. It's a haiku/alexandrine couplet melange LOL

The Freedom Promise

diverse in blossom
the pine stands as reminder
indigenous life

that the world shall see our tree standing without strife
hope blooming amidst ornamented memory

angel's reverie;
flakes, icesickle, mistletoe
and our smiles are wide

from around the globe we've decorated with pride
friendship in our souls; that we would earthly inspire

such want never tired,
for the root of our tree: strong
in the midst of sharing

and such delicate placing, each jewel of caring
so the year next will bring the most ultimate joy

deserved of coy
euphemisms in grace:
personified love

our tree of life sanctioned by unity's tight glove.
Holding steady are we, to the freedom promise.

Dear Ms Jacquii,

To think that you may not have posted this. such inspiration. You just have poetry flowing in your plasma, and just waiting to burst don't you? This was a bit of seriousness girl. The message loud and clear. That first line after that title was an awesome "hook". Set the tone, and one cannot sway from it till done. Thank you for sharing this with us Ms Jacquii.

Kimberly

That's quite a form, Jacquii, and an uplifting poem for the season.

such want never tired,
for the root of our tree: strong
in the midst of sharing

Those words are so true, whether spiritual or familial. Oh that those feelings were true for all people, all the time.

Thanks for posting.

Ms J,

This poem has well placed words, wonderful meter and verse. Each line is striking.. My fav:

Quote:
angel's reverie;
flakes, icesickle, mistletoe
and our smiles are wide
to me this was the picture of those around the tree!

Ah Shux! Thanx so much SALLY - I remember decorating that tree and it was such a thrill - then when WOSIB Lit challenge was to write about a tree - It was the first image that came to mind! Thanx for your comments and I'm glad you enjoyed the poem
