Freedom (Twilights' Rescue)

Where the pastures are green, Midnight still grazes
The cowboys tried, on and on through the ages,
To subdue and confine, his spirit so free
One day the lasso brought him to his knees.

Surrounded by fences and whipped to comply
Midnight rears upwards and neighs at the sky,
Alerting his herd to his capture by men
Now Twilight to Midnight runs free again.

That herd of wild horses are still roaming wild
Led by a brown stallion, Midnights’ only child,
The cowboys still dream, only of his son too,
Dreams of ghost horses and thundering hooves.

Now Twilight’s as fast as his dad ever was
These two wild majestic equestrian gods,
Broke into a gallop and led the stampede
The ranchers’ whole herd, they together, set free.

No fences, no whips only long open plains
With the speed of the wind caressing their manes,
Free as their spirits, as god had intended
Balancing nature, once again mended.

Where the lakes are like crystal, and cowboys dream
Two herds of wild horses sometimes can be seen,
But they are only ever following one
Either the mighty Midnight or his son.

Don't know if I ever mentioned it before but I particularly love this stanza.

"No fences, no whips only long open plains
With the speed of the wind caressing their manes,
Free as their spirits, as god had intended
Balancing nature, once again mended."

I love the whole poem but this stanza is just so perfect, it brings a shiver to my spine. I can almost feel the wind in my own hair.

Must get to that third one, must get to that third one. .
