Grandad's Plotting Mischief

GRANDAD’S PLOTTING MISCHIEF
Leonie Parker © Sunday, 12 October 2008

Cousin Shirley made a cake with pretty little flowers
Made from yummy icing, it took her hours and hours.
Grandad pinched the flowers and hid them in a tin,
He’d share them with me later, he told me with a grin.

Cousin Shirley found them gone and went to tell my Mum.
Mum said she knew who to blame, and pointed with her thumb.
I thought .. oh oh .. now poor old Grandad better run and flee,
But geepers creepers, what the heck, they both looked straight at me.

I told them that I didn't know who pinched the little flowers.
But Mum knew I was fibbing, ‘cause she has superpowers.
She said, “you’ll tell the truth my girl or cross my knee you’ll bend”
But I won’t dob on Grandad ‘cause he is my bestest friend.

He knows he shouldn’t pinch ‘em, shouldn’t be a sneak.
He says his spirit’s willing but his poor old flesh is weak.
Those yummy little icing flowers he finds he can’t resist.
He says they have so many that a couple won’t be missed.

So now I have a real sore bum but Grandad’s good to me.
He reckons we can share the flowers sometime after tea.
Cousin Shirley’s angry but she’s gonna make some more.
And Grandad’s plotting mischief there behind his bedroom door.

Argh yeah well I suppose it's not as bad as having gingerbread men running down the road.

I like this one mum I could picture it near enough perfectly.

Ha Ha, yeah the great gingerbread escape was a classic. Must write a poem about that one day.

Those little flowers always smelt like tobacco because Grandad kept them in an old tobacco tin. I wonder if that's why I never took up smoking. I didn't mind the smell but cigarettes never tasted as good as those stolen flowers. Shirley made little icing fruits as well, apples, strawberries and the like. She tricked us with those because she used a clove as a base.
