Late for the Ball
this thread has 7 replies and has been viewed 149 times
This morning is sadness
words I discover
leave me a lonely bluebird
in ruins of an ancient bird bath,
pecking residue of crusted moss.
Where is the life in this lost tale?
Skeletons of horses, a rotted pumpkin
wait to escort Cinderella
in aftermath of holy war.
I should have been here yesterday
when statues of cherubs
pissed fountains of fresh water.
I could have drank from
the silver cup,
worn silk ribbons in my hair.
What's left, but I'm sorry.
They didn't like you.
You weren't chosen
to light a prince's eye.
You were a mistake they tried to erase.
You came too late.
You'll just have to accept,
you were nothing but a stupid girl
that didn't understand.
Fly away bluebird.
There's nothing for you here
just bones of a dead dream.

Mmm this is raw! Talk about not happily everafter this is it. I think this line, "in ruins of an ancient bird bath" sounds like soap scum! Very great descriptions JolieH!
Hello Jolie H, just had to read this after reading your title"Late for the Ball" It turns out to be more than a party poem as I have first thought. Instead it blew me away with lines like this one

Wow! that was really good/shockingly beautful! My kinda party! Thanks for sharing!
My friend, I have already commented on this poem somewhere else...but the beauty and reality of this medium allows me to comment here also while not having a clue what I said before. My only possible reaction is to chase after my stuff that just got blown across the room. And that is on the second read...it will take many reads for that reaction to wear off my friend. Superb!!
