leaves

can anyone whisper to me
softly, if you please,
the reason for the leaves on the ground?
wet and lifeless,
waving goodbye to their mother tree

as

they

fall.

swaying side to side,
their last and fatal dance.
can you hear them screaming?
perhaps they simply hum a tune.
a farewell tune.
so long, autumn.
so long.

I liked this poem very much - It's like one last poignant wave byebye to the bygone season... Quite a nice tone, somber, but with a lingering melody of sorts, a melancholia perhaps:

Quote:
swaying side to side,
their last and fatal dance.
can you hear them screaming?
perhaps they simply hum a tune.
a farewell tune.
so long, autumn.
so long.
It's interesting write because it's as if reminiscing before the season's truly gone... A weird stigma of sorts - but a truly intriguing write.

Thanx for the sharing.

Nice work, especially this line "their last and fatal dance." It kind of reminds me of Dirty Dancing except with leaves.

Hello seajay!

First off, welcome to the JPIC Community! Secondly, I must say that I like and enjoyed reading this poem. One of my favorite seasons of the year is fall and I love how the leaves change different colors and kind of dance in the wind before they hit the ground and I think that you did a good job describing this. One of my favorite parts was how you broke up the middle of your poem and formatted it with this part here:

as

they

fall.

I liked how you broke up the poem with this and forced the reader to slow down and read each word separately. I also enjoyed how with the last stanza of your poem it kind of shortened down with the last few lines. I also enjoyed how you kind of asked the reader to imagine what the leaves were thinking when they were falling down and stripped away from their mother tree. I thought that this poem was interesting and intriguing as well. Thank you for sharing!
