One Day It Rains
One Day It Rains
Nature never turned me down
or tried to play a game,
tried to blame,
tried to prove she was more
or less than me.
Nature loved me back.
She didn’t speak.
We appreciate each other,
her and her changing
character, me and mine.
One day it rains
another it shines,
but always for a purpose
always to make things right
for everyone in the world,
not just one or another.
That’s why I love nature,
and she returns her appreciation
without question.

"Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby." ~ Langston Hughes

Maybe some us have no other choice. I found Langstons' quote relevent to my own understanding. I have to wonder what gave him the idea to write it. I feel very proud to be on similar grounds, at least to find depth of understanding in his thoughts. I truely love Langston Hughes. I've always related well to his writing, possibly because of his education level and feeling discriminated against. Some of us have a more dificult journey, and nature has always been a challenge to man. I believe it's a good sign. Some of us don't have intellegence to challenge man kind. It just kicks and beats us.

Dear Jolie,
I absolutely love this. This has many many layers. Nature is the catalyst that lends itself to known, unknown, and even surprising avenues in our lives. I too love Mr. Hughes and I think you hit it on the head as too the quote and incorporating your interpretation in the poem. Bravo Jolie on an excellent write and rating!
When I read the first line I thought, "Who hurt this person?" I read on. Unconditional love. So many of us want it yet never receive it. Animals and nature. You're right, that's about the only truly unconditional love we'll ever receive.
The give and take of human relationships, no matter how close to perfect it seems, never quite reaches what nature can give.
I found this so true and just had to add my twenty cents to everyone else's comments.
hugs,
Gail

Jolie,
This was a nice read, smooth, like nature. Well done my dear.
While reading your poem I had a thought about something that never had I really pondered before. I think it was these lines. My fav's by the way.
"Nature never turned me down
or tried to play a game,
tried to blame,
tried to prove she was more
or less than me.
Nature loved me back."
Anyway these ideas be a bit personal for me but what the heck, I am going to write what I thought.
If? If, we have been around before, like other lives and stuff. And if? and if, we have been around a really long time, it's likely we have been Black, White, Brown, Yellow and may be even an animal at some time or other. If that's true we at one time or another have been on the other end of the whip too. May be that is nature too. Who knows, I know it's kind of a weird thought but.....
