Salvation or Salivations

~~~~~~~~
Salvation or Salivations
Did Adam eat the apple
that fell on Newton’s head?
Did Freud lick the rib
when his wife was dead?
Did Christ ascend to heaven,
through the pearly gates?
Was The Origin Of Species
really Planet Of The Apes?
Is man just a mammal,
like in Pavlov’s head,
Is there “Salivations”
in the Good Book's stead.
Does God like some humor,
does He eat soul food?
Would he think I’m funny
Or would he think me rude?
George
Reference material (note some of it may be made up by the author). Added for additional humor and to help the reader of the poem experiance the deeper meanings and may be even laugh.
Adam: From the Bible, Adam ate the forbidden fruit of the
tree of the knowledge of good and evil." The Apple
is referred by some as that fruit.
Newton: To many he was the one who discovered gravity by
an apple falling upon his head. He sort of discovered
some knowledge when the apple hit him.
Freud: Austrian neurologist who originated psychoanalysis.
He taught that the id is that part of the mind in
which are situated the instinctual sexual drives which
require satisfaction.
"Lick the rib" used here to depict Freud’s obsession with sex.
The rib depicting Eve (Adam‘s rib) a woman’s body,
you guess the lick part.
Origin of The Species: Written by Charles Darwin: Founder of
the Man from ape theory.
Planet Of The Apes: A movie about a planet that is run by
talking apes who prove to be more advanced in
terms of intelligence, where the human population
is a sub-standard being.
Pavlov: Investigated the gastric function of dogs by
externalizing a salivary gland so he could collect,
measure and analyze the saliva and what response it
had to food under different conditions. He noticed
that the dogs tended to salivate before food coated
with chili powder was actually delivered to their
mouths, and set out to investigate this "psychic
secretion." He sort of came up with that man was
like the animals-- a stimulus response machine.
God: The big dude who calls "all" the shots or does he?
Soul food: People who go to heaven.
Um - I think there were no pearly gates and that the myth of pearly gates is actually an interesting optimism/metaphor on the theme shitty gates that we all pass through, hence the PC LOL - we just like to dress it up a bit and cleanse the stinch away ---- Enough about me already though... Interesting write - Makes for an enjoyable read that dares the reader to answer his/her own questions and create his/her own reality.
Thanx for the share and feel free to comment your fellow board Members' writing works as well as post your own
Hmm, MsJ, shitty gates? Come to think of it, I don't remember any reference to the Pearly Gates in the bible, just that one would decend and 'go home'. I guess one person put that in a song or poem or perhaps a sermon and it caught on like a lot of myths or legends. Personally, I have my own thoughts on such and just keep my mouth shut.
I gotta say though, George, I enjoyed this poem. I didn't get the reference to Freud licking the rib until I read the reference material at the end, but found the rest very interesting and thoughtful questions to ponder. I think we all have our thoughts on such.
hugs,
Gail
I think I may have remembered "pearly gates" used in one of the descriptions of Heaven in Revalations (oh my goodness, good ol' Bible school when I was younger, it's still stuck in my head).
Altogether, this was a really interesting read you have here and I like that you gave descriptions on things so the reader better understands the references you use. Anywho, thank you for sharing it and keep on writing away!
