The Shadow Soldiers (acrostic)

For all the unknown soldiers, who fought for our country and died without recognition. I dedicate this poem to them.

The Shadow Soldiers

Tattered and torn the flag proudly waved,
High for the freedoms they soulfully saved,
Etched into stone "unknown" is engraved.
Soldiers of war.

Harrowing nights they bravely fought,
Aching for days the gravely sought,
Dreaming of home they never forgot.
Owed to the corp.

Woe for the soldiers the shadows of men,
So solemnly swore to die to defend,
Our country from foes without and within.
Lambs of the fold.

Dead are the soldiers no credit or fame,
Indeed were courageous but died with no name,
Endowed with no medals to faithfully claim.
Remember the bold
Shadow soldiers.

This was an incredible poem of strength, recognition, and homage to the "Shawdow Soldiers" of not only our oresent, but of our oast as well. Great piece, and I commend you and thank you for writing such a powerful, and overdue piece of patriotism. Take care.

A noble poem in its message, but also in the form and meter making it a pleasure to read. As only my second posting, I am truly delighted with the quality of poetry here. I see you are a teacher - your students are very fortunate indeed!

Thank you so much. Philip and Painted, Your comments are greatly appreciated.

I thought I would bring this poem back to the front line (so to speak) in honoring Veteran's Day. (Friday)

Although I haven't written a poem for the men and women soldiers who are still alive and continue to still suffer from the effects of the wars. I do indeed acknowledge them as well. and will try and write one you them soon.

Blessed be

Forestdawn

I love acrostic poems! Don't have the imagination for them myself, lol. Such a profound poem! Had to slow down to carefully read each word, to savor the emotions so imbued in it.
Fantastic poem!

In honoring Memorial Day. I thought I would bring this poem to the top, we always should remember all of those who have indeed paid the price for our country.

And I also want to bless all the soldiers (then and now) living or in death who has ever fought in wars for all of us.

Bless all the soldiers.
