THE THORNY THINGS ~ SONNET

Love is sometimes untamed where wild things grow
like thorn of pricker bush stuck in your side
or thorn of rose, the culprit of blood flow.
These thorny beasts disguise themselves as pride.

A thorn can be a foe you’ll learn real soon
just like love can cast upon you a spell.
Thorns won’t hurt you unless you climb or prune.
It’s just the same for love so treat her well.

A rose is beautiful but full of thorns.
Just like that rose love has a hurtful prick.
Everything pretty has its hidden horns.
To see inside the rose can be the trick.

So look inside and treat love with respect
and all the thorny things will soon reflect.
