Where Have All The Father's Gone?!
Where have all the fathers gone?
Do you see them?
Where have all the fathers gone?
When we need them?
Some of them hang around and raise their children
making sure to direct and strengthen
their sons as they grow tall and strong
fill them with resolve and wild enthusiasm
for life...
to live it
to love it
to teach them honor
responsibility
for the poor and needy
but some of these daddies just get greedy
they want more women to have more kids
to feel more like a man, they spread their seed
far and wide, but can’t meet the need
the time required to invest in their future
the dollars to feed and clothe the little Junior
or Mary, Karen, Sharon or Laquisha
where is my daddy? They ask their Mama!
Where have all the fathers gone?
provisioning? No, no, not even protecting
the little ones from all these child-molesters
leaving their mom to be Mom plus “daddy”
missing in action from the children’s lives
where is their leadership, keeping hope alive?
how can we raise boys without men?
generations lost, and so confused
fabric of humanity
torn
again and again
Where have all the fathers gone?
when they no longer feel like they’re in love
when duty to family doesn’t go hand in glove
when some twisted sense of wrongful liberation
infuses their soul with neglectful declaration
weaning themselves from the responsibility
no wonder these kids get raised without sensibility!
Where have all the fathers gone?
some sitting in prison, depressed, sad and sorry
aching to hear that high pitched sound “Hi, Daddy”
aching to hold their little one’s hands
bellyaching over what they did so wrong
wishing they could turn back the time
well, be strong men! This is no time to whine!
you can still pray for your estranged family
use your self as an example of what not to do
so that your sons and daughters don’t end up like you!
Where have all the fathers gone?
some to far off lands to make more money
forgetting that home is the place more precious than any
building and investing yourself in the future
you are the teachers and God-ordained nurturers
leaders of the family, champions and visionaries
no time to waste now, no reason to tarry
do your duty
make the wrong right, and
sleep with a satisfied feeling tonight

That was great all around, every part of it! I like the part where you examine how the fathers somehow justify in thier minds not being around.
