Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has just completed her sojourn to the United States, during which she visited and celebrated the 400th Anniversary of Jamestown, the first official settlement of the Americas.

Quoted From Welcome to the official web site of the British Monarchy
Quote:
Over the course of my reign, and certainly since I first visited Jamestown in 1957, my country has become a much more diverse society, just as the Commonwealth of Virginia and the whole United States of America have also undergone major social change. The "melting pot" metaphor captures one of the great strengths of your country and is an inspiration to others around the world as we face the continuing social challenges ahead.
Her Majesty & Prince Philip rounded off the visit with a formal dinner in Washington D.C. at the White House as President & First Lady Bush's guest. Says Queen Elizabeth in her White House speech: "Mr. President, thank you for inviting Prince Philip and me to visit your country to share in the commemoration of the Jamestown anniversary, and to have this opportunity to underline the extent of our friendship, past, present and future. It is indeed a pleasure for us be here in Washington again and to be welcomed back to the White House."

The Writing Prompt Exercise
Imagine you're sitting next to the Queen of England at a White House dinner. What do you say to her?

In a 2 or 3 paragraph essay OR 20 - 30 line poem, write your response to the above question. The piece may be about the Queen's visit to the States or based on a totally different issue --- such as the beauty of her jeweled crown. Perhaps the piece should be a conversational about the award winning movie starring Helen Mirren as The Queen or a soliloquy about how jealous you are of her ruffled gown OR maybe a rambling on how well she has aged through the years...

The subject matter may be political, a friendly admiration or anything really. The writing is at the total descretion of you --- The Artiste.

Stipulation:
The following phrases must be used within the writing:
  • Oh Canada
  • Exquisite lingerie
  • Resources for poesy
  • French cuisine
  • American pie
--------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------

I think this should be quite fun, as well as immensely challenging. And as there is no set structure - there should be many different styles, diverse voices & an interesting melange of wit shown in the various writings.

The object of course is to get those creative juices flowing! So have fun AND Happy posting!

Jacquii.

Sweet Lady of the Bejeweled Crown
Of the disguised exquisite lingerie...
hidden beneath the folds of petals
Of Flowers from your precious gems.

Oh Canada she's given you,
The roar of falls and streams
That echo in your gentle eyes
Sweet Lady oh Divine.

Let me feed you from my hands
This sweet american pie
Ignore the tastes you dine at home
Bland english chips or french cuisine.

Revel in our hopes, Queen of England
And bring sense back to our lives
You are our Resource of Poesy,
Our Gem and Our Flower.

You are what we wish we could be.

Here's rambling for you. >>

Extremely intuitive, Sealiah...as if you're speaking for most of the American people here...I love it...it takes into account all the trappings of royalty and rolls it out like a red carpet for us to saunter down slowly, savoring each and every line....spectacular response to this challenge...like PD says...u sure raised da bar.... (if this was a limbo dance I'd say you lowered it!)
