Dinner For Four

Dinner for four, I set the table
In hopes that my guests all are able
To arrive here together on time…

Poe escorted by a raven
Morrison comes unshaven
Seuss reciting nonsensical rhyme…

As the meal is served
Conversations they swerved
Between topics of life and of death…

How the subjects did change
And viewpoints rearrange
By the spoken retorts they did find…

Quiescent was the mood
As we finished the food
They all thanked me for being so kind…

The evening was not jejune
Why, they stayed until noon
And then disappeared all in one breath…

Fed my mind as these famous poets I met!
Alas, that’s a meal that I’ll never forget!

Hey CHECKMATE - I thought this writing was simply marvelous. Is it any particular style, as I see the form is symetrical throughout. A very whimsical and fun write - Thanx for the sharing
