Anthropomorphism - NOUN
Attribution of human motivation, characteristics, or behavior to inanimate objects, animals, or natural phenomena.
To describe a rushing river as “angry” is to anthropomorphize it.

Of course a synonym for anthropomorphism is "personification" - which simply means to personify; Make an object come alive.... That is what this challenge is about really - As MS KIM states: "to breathe life into whatever the object is... The moon, a spoon, the sea, a star, etc..." I have, however, not used the moon nor the spoon, but instead I've made a selection of some beautiful photos and artwork from deviantART; The objects (as seen below) include rocks, rings, a dog, a book, a mask and a leaf with early morning dew.

The Objective:
Simply put - the objective of this Creativity Outlet challenge is to choose from the selection of pics below and write as if the main focus of the picture has a voice of its own... In essense - breathe a bit of life into the object. Tell us what the object is feeling, how his or her day has gone, where he/she anticipates being in the future and when he/she plans on getting there.... Rather for good or bad? Your decision.

Now - keeping in mind the definition of anthropomorphism: Let your object's voice be heard like the anger within that rushing river... Perhaps your river is not angry at all, but simply evoking a sense of calm within by cooing to the flora and fauna at its banks... Maybe your river is singing an Irish lullaby? This is where your creativity comes in! Get creative!

Challenge Stipulations:
  • You're poem(s) must be no more than 20 lines, either rhyming or non-rhyming.
  • You're shortstory or essay must stay within a 300-word maximum.
  • You may indeed write about each object from the selection below if you choose = The more creative writing - The better for literature fiends like myself....
  • The title of your piece must include the color of your objects mood at the time of writing AND must also include the objects name. Use your creativity...
Example: Black Mask On Alabaster OR Sin's Purple Jewel
  • Have fun being creatively challenged and an inspired creationist.

Rose colored stone

Rose, Rose a heart of stone
heart so cold, and so alone
Rose so bright she appears soft
a breeze could carry her aloft

But waiting for the water cold
as death and twice as old
She's lying on the river bed
bright as stone whose love long fled

A heart of stone is rose, Rose
is so alone that I suppose
except for all the hard gray stones
Rose colored stone, Rose is alone.

Oh My! BETH what a fabulous answer to the Personify challenge! This is gonna be really interesting to see the different takes on the pics - But anyway - speaking on your poem - I thought it was filled with imagery and right on point as the words cold, alone, stone, old juxtaposed with the "Rose" makes for quite an irony - Nice job

Jacquii.

Heart of Stone in Blues Verse

My heart was so broken it split in two
(when my lover left me)
My heart was so broken it shole did split
(when my lover left me)
It turned so cold a stone it left
By the grace of god mended itself
(when my lover left me)

Just one spontaneous verse, as my Muse hasn't quite returned just yet....

Why thank-you, msJ ... it was rather spontaneous, and I thought, a little silly ... funny how our own perception differs from our readers.

I like your blues piece ... very authentic.

Black Mask Waiting On Red Heat

It’s been weeks
hasn’t it…
sitting here waiting
to go out again
someday soon another will come
there will be a masked ball
a private party somewhere
or some lady will decide
I could help spice things up
like so many have before
it’s not so bad waiting here
I can see what all my ladies saw
that last orgy? Whew…
time for another one of those
but really, all those scandalous affairs
are fun
but what I really love
is the warmth I get
from a woman
deep in love
~

Brown Eyes

With soft brown eyes of melted soul,
The dog emplores he does cajole,
To win from you a crumb or touch
And in return he loves you much.

... bet you can't tell I'm a dog lover
