Write An Animotion Poem

Introduction:

Hello JPiCans! Time for another Creativity Outlet Challenge! This one is called “ Write An Animotion Poem.”

Animotion is a word I created when combining the words “ Animal” and “ Emotion” together.

How many times have we equated an animal with human behavior and visa versa? How many times have we created metaphors using animals and us? For example, she is as sly as a fox. Her lips tasted like the softness of an oyster with pear. He is a snake in the grass etc.

Sometimes we say these things and people can equate them right away. Other times our metaphors may present an ironic relationship between an animal and us. For example, he is as happy as a caged bird. Her laugh is as lethal as a cup of hemlock. These are some examples to get you started in thinking about your Animotion Poems and may help writer’s block as well.

Objectives:

Now it is your turn to wow us with your Animotion poems !! Don’t be afraid to go abstract, make us think, or skillfully craft a totally unexpected relationship! I have outlined an easy to use form for your convenience, explained in the following section.

Therefore, have fun and be creative with the animal. Remember there are many exotic, strange, and unusual animals out there on land, flying, and in the ocean! BE CREATIVE!

The Form:

Line 1 – Name an emotion.

Line 2 – Write a / an adjective, then name an animal you equate with that emotion.

Line 3 – Write an action filled line describing how the animal moves.

Line 4
– Write a line describing literally or creatively how the animal moves.

Line 5 – Write the last line packing a punch to the entire poem. For example, write a question, or write a line describing why the animal acts the way it does, or write a line describing how we react to the animal…in other words use your skills to tie together the animal and your emotion chosen.

Additional Instructions:

I would like to see the poems posted to follow the same bolding and italicized format, as the samples provided. It will be fun to see what emotions are paired with what animals!

Also...you can post as many Animotion Poems as you like! Have Fun! You can also go beyond the 5 lines...be creative, just not too long.

Samples of Animotion Poems:

Below I have in bold and italicized the text of the emotion and the name of the animal equated for quick recognition.

Envy

is a scavenging hyena
slinking, tail between his legs
on the dry grassy savanna,
jealous of the lion's power.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jealousy
is a creeping snail
leaving a slimy trail as he slides
through the undergrowth of your mind
without a leg to stand on.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Additional Resource:

The following address is a link to a list of emotions to jump-start your thinking if need and from there, you can choose an animal that you equate that emotion with.

Horse

Pride

is a prancing horse
dancing with such grace
and beauty it is as if
she is floating on clouds
as she moves. Each step
is with a delicate pause,
head is held high, arching
her neck like a graceful swan.
Flowing hair flies in the air that
is created from the propulsion of
her picking up the speed.
She raises her tail in the air,
daring you to look away.

Indecision

is a wild wilder beast
standing at the water's
edge, staring into the
murky depths. The herd
crowds around, moving
forward, then balking
at the last moment.

Knowing that the river
holds many unseen dangers.
Not wanting to jump into
the mouth of a hungry
alligator that is lying
in wait for them to make
up their indecisive minds.

Moments tick by as their
hooves are inches away
from slippery edge.

The leader leaps
forward
into
the unknown.

Wishing that he'd
stayed on solid ground
but the herd follows behind,
pushing him to swim
forward.

fearful

is a lion who was
thought to have courage
but would not bus a grape
and you know the other
animals thought that
he had gone completely
Ape! or Nuts! and
really in a rut
it was said that all lions
were born with courage
but not him...he was even
afraid of that old dog

Deception

is a graceful seahorse
with his tail curled
around a drifting
piece of seaweed.
Bobbing and dancing
with gentle movements
in the ever persistent
current of the ocean.
Changing colors to match
the vibrant coral,
wearing his spotted suit
of yellows and greens.
Proud of his title
as chameleon
of the sea.
