Denny

DENNY
.
My shipmate's gone
He's moved along
To final port of call
His earthly scow
Is dry-docked now
No more to face the squall
.
His smile that shines
His mooring lines
Are now forever stowed
Yet tall he stands
On foreign lands
And walks another road
.
He loved his wife
He loved his life
And I know he loved me
We had a bond
Above beyond
For we both loved the sea
.
Good times we had
Eh, Denny lad
Good times 'tween you and me
I miss your smile
I miss you style
I miss your company
.
When I catch up
We'll have a cup
And talk of times gone by
You see my friend
It's not the end
I'll see you when I die
.

I'm honestly not a man of the sea nor have I ever been out on a sea....but the thing with this particular poem is that although it is not a topic many people may be able to relate to, it still has that overall theme of memories, reminiscing and the positive mind state and feelings towards a death which are very hard to have when somebody you really love dies....simply beautiful; thank You

Sartor...A most outstanding read...loved the flow of the words and the words... to hear about your friend, and
won't it be lovely to meet friends again when we pass-on...

KingAce and Twinklewriter.......thank you for commenting on the poem. Dennis Leinaar (Denny) was a good friend and we boated the waters of the Pacific Northwest for years. This poem was read at his memorial at the Yacht Club of Port Angeles, Washington. I miss him a lot.
