THE GODDESSES

THE GODDESSES

stride by
in the street, proud
tall and dark

thin waist
long legs, taut breasts
for men to see

to lust after
spoiled and
soiled by love

they make
daily appearances
in all parts of the city

a great past-time
to sit and watch them come
and go like nymphs

and see their sisters
the old ladies, bent
and near life’s end

also walk by
and sometimes lead them
by the arm

to the old age
lobby, with casual
advice of preparation

Nikos, This has a sad, pathetic feel to it...as if there is no hope, only an inevitable end...and not in a good way. Nicely done!

Biography: Jacquii Cooke is a 32 year old Black Poet from Oak Ridge, Tennessee. As Webmistress of Poetry in Color Forum, she is devoted to the more abstract styles, especially those with a strong feminine voice that center around the topic of redemption and righting the wrongs of past transgressions.

Yeah - 'tis nicely scribed NIKOS - Though I dare say that a better title would be The Faux Goddesses LOL -- Anyway - Love the language and word usage in this piece. Speaks of upperclass snobbery in a way... ((Note to self: dream of being in the upperclass LOL))

At anyrate - I appreciate you sharing this poem with us

Jacquii.
