Envious and Avaricious (shortstory by Aesop)
While searching definitions of today’s words for the day, bottom of main forum page, I found this short tale by Aesop.
I thought you might enjoy this, especially some you “short short story” fans.
The word is:
avarice - reprehensible acquisitiveness; insatiable desire for wealth (personified as one of the deadly sins)
Two neighbours came before Jupiter and prayed him to grant their hearts' desire. Now the one was full of avarice, and the other eaten up with envy. So to punish them both, Jupiter granted that each might have whatever he wished for himself, but only on condition that his neighbour had twice as much. The Avaricious man prayed to have a room full of gold. No sooner said than done; but all his joy was turned to grief when he found that his neighbour had two rooms full of the precious metal. Then came the turn of the Envious man, who could not bear to think that his neighbour had any joy at all. So he prayed that he might have one of his own eyes put out, by which means his companion would become totally blind.

WOW! Those men are MEAN! Don't know if such a simple word as "mean" could ever describe the envy and avarice in BOTH - but yeah - MEAN comes to mind , as who the f**k would ever want his eye gone to satiate a need for UGH!?!?????
Anyway - interesting post JOLIE = Thanx for the sharing
Yeah, this was neato.... Ya gotta love the envious dude...... To lose one's own eye so his nemesis would lose two - shows great vision.......
Question...
How did they put his eye out? Did they...
Drop a burning ember into the center of his pupil? or
Use a fish hook, as one would bait a minnow and pull? or
Use a thumb to jam it into the cranial cavity? or
OOOhhhhhh - or mayhaps they peeled it! Layer by thin layer they peeled his eye under his writhing protestations - muaaaahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahaha ..
So Sorry - too close to Halloween - Hey, thanx for postin', t'was fun indeed.................

That envious dude was truly evil. Although, I'm sure if it were real life, he'd brush it off by calling himself human. I find it more barbaric, but hey we can’t all be dignified. I’ve seen the evil of envy in people before, and it is blind. They don’t see what monkey their actions make of them. Obviously this character Aesop developed is wise to his own malfunction and delights in evil simply for the satisfaction of winning the game. He probably thinks the guy got what he deserved. LOL

Hey Jolie that was some story!!!! LOLOL @ lasher! Even though I liked the idea of "peeling", lol. Just think how awful is to have those feelings, and to take away from oneself so that thy neighbor won't have. Truly a great story with a "HUGE" lesson to learn. YES YES YES lol I loved the short story format! Thank you for posting this Jolie!!

I posted this mostly for you PD, I knew you would like it because it has a clever twist in the end. I thought maybe you could use the concept of twice as much isn't always better in one of you scary tales.
