With all that said.......I am interested in what lovely "linear" Haibun our members can produce on our forum. My original post is a "guideline" so to speak, to craft a Haibun. The Western example of how it came about is just that---A Western Example.

I have studied Oriental Calligraphy extensively and their culture and am very well aware of the information in your post. Also very well aware that the "Pictures" were the "Characters". Please don't forget our members are cultured and highly intelligent, including myself. In no way, shape, or form am I taking away from or corrupting their phenomenal culture, and was not my intention. Truthfully, I can't even believe that I am explaining myself, and I do not have to but for the sake of response.

Also in my post I stated that "American and British poets are reinventing the form for a new time and place, here and now" and "The west is in an experimental phase with the haibun, expanding boundaries of what can be done with and within the form. Buried within experimentation comes the study of established practices." Lastly I state the examples are of a contemporary vision. Making it quite clear that what I posted were "new" thoughts about it and how it came about, while giving respect and acknowledgement to the original form.

For me personally, I welcome new improvisions of the form, as well as appreciate and respect the original form. Who knows what new creativity lies in our minds and I would love to see, as I stated above, what lovely posts of Haibun our members can share.

Nothing more, and nothing less.

Now with that said....I would prefer to get back to seeing posts of some lovely Haibun please.

Ahhhh, all this almost made me forget to feast my eyes on our first post by Checkmate! Thank you Checkmate!!!!

Hmmm - I missed SCOTT's post as well - I thought it was sort of rudish actually as you (MS KIM) posted a lovely new style and for Mr. Greece to so school everyone on the purpose of the haibun or any Eastern form not being poetry at all but PICTURES

Neither here nor there - Just weird really...
Possibly one of these days when I'm not in such an ugly mood
I will endeavor to write an English haibun entitled Adonis! - of course it would have to be English cause I don't speak no languages and certainly can't paint worth shit...

Dear Scott,

THANK YOU for posting the FIRST HAIBUN!!! A mighty fine post at that! This was exceptional and I love your improvision calling it Frechanese was awesome! I love the story told and in my mind I envisioned on old black and white photo of fisherman coming back to dock with their prized catch. That's what I'm talkin about. You took the form and penned your vision and story. Made me alittle misty actually Scott and I know I just got a couple of boxes of tissues at Walmart, lolol. It is beautiful and thank you for sharing this. Oh, by the way, I could not quote my favorite line, sooooo......lol. Love it!! Here is a gift (rose) for you for posting the first one....

I did not mean to school anyone, and I apologize if it sounded sinister, Kim.
And of course the members are cultured here--I simply wanted to introduce what I know about this matter and what that implies.

Whether Japanese or Chinese, what I said is true for both cultures. Their characters were pictures.

I may try to write a haibun, too, though my own work has a lot of Oriental elements in it to begin with.

Many thanks.

thanks for the comments ladies...i figured "frenchanese" was the proper term, considering the french origins of the alexandrine couplet....thought it would be a nice little twist ...couplets and haiku...you ladies are definitely expanding my horizons
