Icon21 She Dances In My Mind

I was younger once
And foolish enough to think
I had something…
Something valuable in my words
But that was days ago
Before I lost it all

Once in a lifetime
Is it enough?

Drifting through this world
Of lonely people
And love left cold
With so many dead or dying
I seek solace where I can

Dancers
Long silky hair flowing
Legs that won’t stop
I am weak and only human
Just a man
In search of his soul
Each step taking me closer perhaps
To the edge

In a cage above the floor
She dances in my mind
Swirling in time to the beat
Of my heart
Her eyes sparkled
Every time she recalled
Dancing in Detroit
In the summertime
In the ‘70s
A lifetime before we met

I was once foolish enough
To think I had nothing

Wow Kit.... this is quite the introspective poem. I could see that cage and see the glittering, glowing ball circling sparkles of light everywhere. Disco era wasn't it? Excellent writing Kit. I love how you are so able to lead the reader to envision the picture. My favorite lines:

Quote:
Every time she recalled
Dancing in Detroit
In the summertime
In the ‘70s
A lifetime before we met

I was once foolish enough
To think I had nothing
Thanks for the memories stirring and for a wonderful poem.

Thanks Mysty...I lost my dancer two weeks ago...she died in her sleep...I must write or go crazy...in an attempt to let off steam...I actually went to a small club last night...obviously, she went with me. Yes, it was the beginning of the disco era and I never tired of hearing about it.

Hello Kit!

I really do like this poem of yours and especially how you ended it too. I like the subject of this poem and the images in your poem too. One of my favorite parts is this below:

Dancers
Long silky hair flowing
Legs that won’t stop
I am weak and only human
Just a man
In search of his soul

Anywho, I also really do like how you ended it as well with the last two lines: I was once foolish enough
To think I had nothing
I like what you're saying with this and that you're saying that you were foolish to believe that you had nothing. I know that sometimes I believe that I have nothing but come to the same conclusion, that I have a lot of things that I've become blind to that I do have. So, I found this a poignant way to end your poem and found this a very strong ending. Thank you for sharing and keep on writing away!

Dear Kit,

You are in my thoughts always. This was a beautiful memoir / rendition of a special time with your angel. You cannot do anymore with this...it is priceless. I am getting a little chocked up so will keep short and sweet...and you already know what all I want to say. Love ya and yes...as I said on your other page...you will be amazed how she nudges you to pick up your pen and dance on paper.

Kim
