Time To Say Goodbye

Years ago I told you, Love,
I’d never say goodbye,
That I would be, beside you till,
The day that I should die,

I know I said, you’ll always have,
A place here in my heart,
Remaining there forever more,
That we would never part,

Dear, life, in all its twist and turns,
Is constantly in change,
Till what we were and where we are,
Has now been rearranged.

It doesn’t mean my love for you,
Is something in the past,
Nor does it mean what we went through,
Was never meant to last,

It only means the time has come,
It’s something I must do,
To say goodbye, will never mean,
My love for you is through,

I meant it when I said you’ll have,
A place here in my heart,
Remaining there forever more,
Though we are far apart,

I know it’s best, this task I do,
And can’t give reason why,
I love you still, I always will,
It’s time to say goodbye.

Love relationships that are good, sometimes get better. Sometimes they simply exist and one day we look at the relationship and determine it has no future. This does not mean we no longer feel the warmth of love but the passion has diminished. In spite of the feeling, the time has come to say goodbye. This one was written for a friend. Not for myself but I tried best to feel empathy. Thank you for reading and commenting on it.

Ron..........what a sweet set of quatrains you have written. Rhyme and meter are in perfect balance. I applaud you Poet. Well done, well done.

A single nit have I. It occurred to me that the first line in the third stanza is a tad off for me. I stumbled a bit when I read then re-read it. The line goes as follows:

Dear, life, in all its twist and turns

Perhaps it would flow more evenly if it were to be changed to:

Life, Dear, in all its twist and turns

Just an observation from one poet to another. May the Muses be at your side.
