Valentine Prayer
Each year a nurse, that works with terminally ill children asked me to write a poem suitable to be included into a valentine card, she gives to each of those in her care. These children are severe cases. Some are unable to feed themselves. Some only have the capacity to understand love and little else. Some will never see another Valentine's Day. She treats each of them as if they were her very own children. She loves them as such. This was my selection for February 14, 2007.
Valentine Prayer
I prayed for beauty in this life,
Some beauty I could see,
I prayed again, for happiness,
That it would come to me.
I asked for joy, to fill my heart,
As I go through each day,
For it would lift my spirit high,
As I go on my way,
I asked for love to live within,
My being as I live,
A love to fill my lonely times,
A love that I could give,
I asked for beauty, happiness,
That joy and love be mine,
And then I asked for God to give,
To me a Valentine,
He gave me happiness and joy,
With love to see me through,
He gave to me, a Valentine,
That Valentine is you.
For you’re my beauty, love and joy,
And happiness is mine,
But only ‘cause God made it so,
Made you my Valentine.
Remember, when this day is gone,
I want your heart to know,
You’ll always be my Valentine,
Because God made it so.
