To Win Her Heart

There is a truth that most men know -
a woman's heart is hard to win.
All through the ages men have tried
yet few have learned how to begin.

Forget yourself, give her your all.
Yes, you've been hurt before - I'm sure -
but that's no reason to hold back,
the lesson learned is to give more.

For if somebody let you down,
rebuked your love or broke your heart,
the one thing you are sure to know:
she was not yours til death do part.

Fine chocolates are two-edged swords,
while roses wilt within a week,
but poetry shows who you are -
allows your inner self to speak.

So get your pen and write an ode,
romantic ballad, villanelle.
Make sure your words come from your heart.
If not, you can be sure she'll tell.

A wonderful rhyme Terence.
Speaks truth and honesty.
Good advice but I can't believe no one else
has commented it. Well done!

Thank you, moonchild, glad you liked this. I guess I'm late in responding as well, lol.

Hi solo, it is a wonderful lady who inspired this poem, someone who sees me through my poetry. Thank you for your thoughts.
