Rob
It was a hard phone call to receive and the ones since have not been any easier. It was the end of September in 2006 when my mom called to inform me that my brother was rushed to the hospital. It was the next day we found out he had leukumia and the diagnosis was not good. My two sisters, brother and I all got tested, only to find out that none of us was a match. 'What would happen next?' is all I could think. Then finally a couple days before Christmas he had a bone marrow transplant. The day before my son's sixth birthday, in January, Rob was able to come home from the hospital. Since then it has been an up and down battle for him. On antibiotics for infections and in the hospital for a couple days here and there has been the story of his life. Then all of a sudden he seemed to be getting better and had made it a year after his transplant.
WAM! It was like a slap in the face for us,totally not expected. The phone call came again, at the beginning of March, he was back in the hospital. This time it was believed that Rob had a fungal disease. But a week later, after three surgeries on his sinuses, he was told that the leukumia is back. This time in his sinus canal and a few cells were found in his spinal fluid. He had to go through ten radiation treatments on his sinuses. Now he will go through two systemic chemotherapy treatments and have six weeks of chemo being put into his spinal fluid through a tube that has been inserted in his head. The radiation made him terribly sick and he barely got through the chemo last year. I don't know how he will make it through it this time.
For the last year and a half we have prayed for the best and prepared for the worst. I am now at a lost for words on how to deal with it. 'When will God stop testing us? When will God decide it is his time, that he has accomplished what he was put here to do?' That's all that keeps going through my head. How do I deal with my own emotions while being there for my mom and dad? My mom is grateful that she can tell me things that she can't voice to my brother.
'When something happens to Rob what will happen to this family?' a question that I have no way of answering.

Since I started to write this essay things have went from bad to worst. Right now Rob is in the hospital in very bad shape. His liver is damaged and not getting rid of the toxins in his body, which is causing his kidneys not to work properly. My mom is in denial that this could kill him and I don't know how to deal with her. Because I am preparing for the worst and not sure he will make it through this time. What makes this situation even harder on us ten and a half years ago we watched my grandfather slowly die from lung cancer and Rob is acting like my grandpap did right before he died.
You know I'm here for you and I'm sure there are people on this site who feel the same way. I'm just down the road and more than willing to scoot my butt to your place. God knows I need the exercise!

Thank you so much for that Kim. I found out just alittle bit ago that Rob has severe liver damage now and if the medicine doesn't work in two days that there is nothing else that can be done for him. Rob told the doctor they were trying to fight nature and that he has to let nature run its course.

thank you so much kim. to let you know the experimental medicine they put rob on seems to be working, but it is unknown territory once he comes off it on monday. so it is an up in the air situation right now or could just be that calm before the storm. on top of it all he has another blood infection which he is on antibiotics for and they are not sure if the mass behind his eye is leukimia. and if it is then they can't do chemo because it would just cause him to end up where he is at now. the only good news is that his divorce came through, lol.
