"A Theory of Earth´s Structure." (Part 2).

This is Part 2. Some of the unusual features of the world are the evidence, the proof that the Earth´s surface is a system of plates in motion. Two hundred million years before the most recent movement began, the Continent of South America fitted under the "bulge" of western Africa, and North America fitted around the "fat" part of the Continent. Europe and most Asia were far to the north. The movement of Africa into Europe (action that formed the Mediterranean Sea) also pushed up some rather high mountains, the Alps of Europe and the Atlas range of northern Africa. Movement of the subcontinent of India, which was attached to the land mass along the eastern coast of Africa, according to the theory, resulted in the highest group of mountain peaks in the world, the Himalaya range. The westward movement of the American Continents accounts for the range of mountains along the western coastline -The Sierras and the Andes.
The next fifty million years will make more changes in the land pattern, California (including Baja California) will become a long island off the North American land mass. The thin connection between the Americas will break. A part of East Africa will shift to the north and east while the rest of Africa will shift north and west. Australia will move north, India to the east, and Japan slightly to the south. The Atlantic Ocean will grow wider and the Pacific narrower.

Dear Ms Stardust ,

Thank you for this essay. What you speak of here is called "Continental Drift". The hypothesis of continental drift became part of the larger theory of plate tectonics.

South America and Africa are moving apart at an average of 5.7 cm per year because the sea floor is spreading along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. This is comparable to the growth speed of a fingernail.

The fastest recorded sea floor spreading takes place along the East Pacific Rise at 17.2 cm per year.

Evidence for continental drift is now extensive, in the form of plant and animal fossils of the same age found around different continent shores, suggesting that these shores were once joined: the fossils of the freshwater crocodile, found in Brazil and South Africa, are one example. Another is the discovery of fossils of the aquatic reptile Lystrosaurus from rocks of the same age from locations in South America, Africa, and Antarctica. There is also living evidence - the same animals being found on two continents. An example of this is a particular earthworm found in South America and South Africa.

On the topic of Neutrinos....yes, they are everywhere, hardly have any mass, and go through all substances.

Thank you for sharing...as this part of what I teach, and am educated in. Great write!
