The moment I saw him
with big blue eyes and
perfectly blonde hair
I knew he was something special

There was this connection
a bond, him and I
with no one I've had before

He fills me with warmth
that Florida sunshine
an ocean breeze
a beautiful day

A smile replaces the frown
on my face
just hearing his words
linger softly in my ear

Across the universe
his soul lies from mine
As I sit
waiting here
for my knight in shining armour
to return for me again.

Exhausted! The last metal statue of the four elements
completed: Soliloquy had to have this sculpture finished
before The Celebration of the Elements. Truly a genuine
masterpiece: four gender neutral humans in sandals
seated legs dangling with ease, holding a representation
of the elements in their hands:

Air held a humming bird with pride,
in a bronze cage a bracelet on its wrist.

Water carried a Beluga whale with solace,
in a clear textured murano glass bowl.

Fire sustained by a burning heart with mania,
on a slab of freshly harvested turquoise.

Earth harboured a clay pot with indecision,
dirt collected near the Tree of Knowledge.

This massive structure had to be taken to the town square.
Soliloquy swore that she would sleep for daysas this was her
last commission before the Winter Solstice. The witching hour
found her attentive and un-slumbered, Soliloquy did the only
thing that could be done: she put on her slippers and made
her way back to the atelier and thought of many themes for
unique anomalies.

Instantly, an idea formed in the core of her mind. She wanted
to produce an opus that would resonate the yin-yang impression
on the physical body and ethereal mind. The first matter to
contend with was the brain, requiring something heavy that
was able to support proficiency with ease.

During her last visit to the blacksmith a couple of months back
as a gift she was given a smaller head-size anvil for jewelery
making: which would make an ideal brain. Soliloquy had decided
to paint the crown with a mixture of hues to represent the
myriad of cultures that could be found within our glorious humanity.

The perfect neck: a small inner-tube that would be able to support
such a heavy head - she had taken this from her little radio-flyer
wagon Geppetto had bought her for their first Christmas together.
The wagon had been broken for some time (she had wanted to
see what it would be like rolling with excess of great speed down
the hill). Needless to say: no more shiny red wagon.

The most difficult task was yet to come. The arms and legs were
strung on silver thread with stones, purchased during her last trip
to Brazil - I believe that these were stones from Carnival, a variety
of: amethyst, alexandrite, smokey quartz and jade. The knees
and elbows were large ivory knots with painted eyes on them to
ensure this pseudo-person could see all directions at the same time
with the mobility to move in any direction. Hands and feet had been
cast bronze mitts and slippers: cold but practical.

Soliloquy gave great though to the chest. From a copper pot on the
fire, filled with liquid sugar and grains of melted sand, she poured
the substance into the copper mold of a shield that rested on the table.
Patiently waiting for the torso to cool and harden. At last, with her worn
body, she found her way to bed. Prior to sleeping Soliloquy thought:
I finally did it. My outsides can meet my insides with this new creature.

The Breakable ~ Un:
Instead of a head, an anvil.
Instead of a neck, an inner tube.
Instead of a torso, a glass shield.
Instead of arms and legs, precious beaded stones.
Instead of hands and feet, bronzed mitts and slippers.
Instead of elbows and knees, two sets of eyes.
Here is the conflict with the inside:
nothing can supersede the spirit.

After 15 hours of pleasant sleep, Soliloquy awoke at last. The first thing
she wanted to do was look on her magnificence. Upon arrival to the atelier
she realised everything was, as she left it after completing the piece for
The Celebration of the Elements. "It was all a dream!" Soliloquy thought
to herself... and went looking for the beads she bought in Brazil during
last years Carnival?
With voice so harsh it laid trees bare
Again he said you’re leaving today
Hissed through the vines his ill tidings

You can’t leave today my love
Not when the bougainvilleas frolic
Oh no, not today my love
Not with orchids in festive glee

Even in the morrow you cannot go
For the fruits will be in harvest then
Oh no, not in the morrow you cannot go
For the arid sod awaits your benediction

The wind told me you’re leaving today
Absurd! I said to this malignant tattle
The wind insisted that you’re leaving today
Ill wind begone, was my incensed outcry

The daily trip to the bus,
The morning stroll & sleepy talks,
Frosty avenues & reluctant steps
towards the building that lies snug against,
the Churches steeple all grey and loveless
A sharp looking building with no hope upon it.
Now how could you find such a tender thing as love,
In such a harsh place? - Sweet Heavens above!

Going away,
I take one last look behind,
And you can't believe those winter days
Were nothing more than lies.

Knives in our backs,
Dying memories inside -
Maybe I've become so heartless,
Maybe free, or simply blind.

Dear, we are done,
Drink your tears of regret,
Find the answers by yourself,
And make my side of our bed.

Swallow your last words,
Go on living in your shell.
In front of you is loneliness -
I've only cast my spell.

Wounds will heal so soon,
But for years you'll be scarred.
You could never think you'd say this,
But you'll find our parting hard.

Shards of perished hope
Watch your recent dreams come by,
You'll feel lost and devastated,
You will hear this song and cry!

Everything that's left
Burns your blood and slits your wrists,
It's your silent suicide,
But I can feel no guilt for this.

No guilt for this!

He stirred slightly, muttering unintelligibly in his sleep. For a spilt second his dimples betrayed his handsome comeliness, bringing a rush of warmth to Angie’s bosom. Sliding gently out of bed, she tucked Gary in one last time, and kissed his forehead fondly and slipped on her night robe.

Leaving the room she absent mindedly put away stray toys in the cupboard, before stopping at the door adjacent to theirs. Idly twisting her wedding ring around her finger, her smile deepened as she cast her gaze upon Joshua and Jessica as they slept soundly in their twin cot.
Her little urchins.
Gary had another precious bundle coming – already the telltale bump beneath her nightie was beginning to show……

Tears suddenly welled up in her eyes as she sent a silent prayer up to God for answering her prayers. She had a joy filled life and praised God for her husband and twins at every given opportunity. Her throaty deep guffaw was infectious, and many envied her life of seemingly carefree existence.
Or so it seemed.
It had not always been so, and Angie had learnt to appreciate her good fortune when it had come through. She had been hopelessly in love with Ken, who had never appreciated nor loved her as much as she had. She’d tried to be there for him, but it had never been good enough. There was a flaw in all her efforts each time, and he’s battered her ego mercilessly. She’d loved him all the same. He abused her emotionally, telling her that had it not been for him no one else would have made the mistake of making her his wife. He’d been distant and unavailable emotionally, only turning to her for physical gratification. He’d lied to her and cheated her repeatedly; even wither brothers ex girlfriend. The climax had come when she’d given birth to Cassidy. As far as he was concerned. Casey had been born the wrong sex – he’d wanted a son, not a daughter who would grow into a simpering fool like her mother. And so he’d unceremoniously walked out of her life, and left her to pick up the pieces, alone and despairing. He had not however walked out of her heart, or mind.

Christmas Tree
Leonie Parker © Monday, 1 December 2008

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree,
What have the hell you done to me.
Pine needles all across the floor;
I don’t think I can take much more.

Those Christmas bells you held, so sweet,
Have now all fallen at your feet.
And last years lights so fresh and bright
Refuse to light the dark tonight.

Those glitter covered tinsel balls
Are lovely but the glitter falls
On everything, sticks to my dress.
That glitter makes an awful mess.

I made fake snow from little beans
Just like some winter Christmas scenes.
But you refuse to hold the snow
And we know where that snow will go.

So now I have snow in my hair
On every table, every chair.
There’s snow where snow just shouldn’t be,
There’s even snow on my TV.

Oh Christmas Tree; Oh Christmas Tree
I offer up this silent plea.
If I don’t swear will that suffice?
Will Santa know and think I’m nice?

The radio plays Christmas tunes.
The decorations have balloons
In Christmas colours red and green
As pretty as I’ve ever seen.

There’s presents underneath the tree.
I think there’s even one for me,
All wrapped in foil so shiny bright.
I just can’t wait for Christmas night.

The stocking’s hung the lights are lit.
We’ve cleaned the snow up quite a bit.
We’re sitting down to share a drink.
And life is good, that’s what I think.

Oh Christmas Tree; Oh Christmas Tree
You really are a joy to see.
Now we’re all filled with Christmas Cheer;
Let’s do it all again next year.

Like Cinderella, autumn wears
its finery for only a short while.
Trees drip in gemstone colors
of ruby, amber, garnet and
citrine. Their countdown begins.

The magic hour approaches, still
they dance, as frost settles on
pumpkins in the fields, winter
overcomes them and their
brilliant jewels are lost to the wind.

When I broke the husk apart
There he was standing alone,
In rags that were not his
With a bottle I didn’t know,
Was plain old simple water
But I thought alcohol,
What a bum, not worth a glance
How the hell could I have known?

“Can you spare a cig, buddy?”
“I only want a fag”
Shunning him, I walked away
Scoffing his tattered rags,
Salvaged from a life-line bin
Torn from a garbage bag,
That’s the reason that I shun
And sometimes even gag...

When they get, way too close
Begging for what-ever,
Just a feed, sometimes is all
Nothing ever better,
Just the basic needs of life
The edge of man-kind’s tether
The reduction of a man
Into a street lined beggar.

Opulence, I enjoyed
A car worth twenty grand,
A wife and kids, oblivious
Of where we all could stand,
The CEO of all I own
Panics and demands,
Out-sources all production
Into a foreign land.

A job of twenty years
A whisper in the wind,
Long-service, benefits
The man above rescinds,
Nothing left, all is gone
She left and took my kin
My hope and adulation
Increasingly grows dim.

Curled inside a husk
One day, maybe I’ll eat,
Those better off
With tarnished teeth I greet,
Can you spare a dollar?
Hope still on its feet
Bleary eyed and determined
That life will not defeat.

With a graceful swing
My pitching wedge struck the ball
Fell short of the hole

Fore! called the golfer
Atop the seventh tee mound
Splash! replied the lake

It was just two feet
But my buddy didn’t say “take”
Ooh, the ball lipped out

Long putt’s a challenge
Two to three breaks from the hole
Glory to God it’s in!

Oh, Tiger, Tiger
Ball burning bright, a meteor
In dazzling flight

You are out of bounds
Said the pert lady caddy
At his naughty pitch

Birdies have no plumes
Bogey is not an ogre
Albatross, not cursed
