Here, under starry heavens,
on this soft, moist belly of earth,
begins the feathered banquet, as it always has,
with frailty serving to nourish power,
with spirit taking sustenance from the infirmity of its community,
creating not just life, but vibrance,
through the eloquence of death.

Feasting on perfection, with sweet melody,
flocks of every measure, every hue
soar above, fluttering their dance of wonder,
calling their songs of delight to the blue-sky air,
filling it with the music of deliverance.

Grasses and flowers of tender tint,
a petaled rainbow that is its own promise
amid the aroma of bloom,
the scent of water warmed by the sun,
the perfume of dampened shadowy soil
caresses the senses, transports
to a place in primal memory, where energy rises.

Aged trees stand tiptoe at the edge of dark, living waters,
airing their roots, proudly displaying their source;
that source which delivers a leafy haven
to beckon winged bands in every season,
from the four winds to this sanctuary
formed by an orgasmic earth,
convulsing with her own beauty,
trembling in her reverence for her own life.
