The land they call the Woody Swamp
is a damp and dangerous place.
It’s where old Ezra lives, they say
and folks vanish, without a trace.

Old Ezra is an evil one,
he stores gold in his sorry place.
His eyes are only cold black holes
yet they illuminate his face.

The Barker boys set out one day,
that is how the story is told.
To search out old Ezra’s cabin
and make off with old Ezra’s gold.

When they came upon the cabin
old Ezra was not in sight.
So they kicked in the old front door,
and stole Ezra’s gold that night.

It’s close to thirty years ago
since the Barker boys went in.
They never did find thier way out,
the legend tells where they've been.

On days the swamp appears peaceful,
you hear something in the breeze.
it sounds like voice's begging, but
evil Ezra takes no pleas.

Down in the woody swamp where no one now will go
there is a dark cabin, in it two boys I know.
They went into the swamp to seek their fortune there
they never did come out, they live a real nightmare.

It’s called bad Ezra’s shack; in there he still resides.
Flames flicker from his gold there’s no attempt to hide.
It’s guarded by those boys for whom the bell now tolls
rich dreams were in their eyes which now are cold black holes.

Life may or may not twist beneath their cold pale skin
but hope has all but left, they’ll never see their kin.
This cabin’s now their home and in it they must dwell
with Ezra as their host, they wish they were in hell.

It’s years since they became the guardians of that gold.
For once when thy first came, they thought that they had stole
the riches they now watch, as slowly they grow old.
They did not know the truth of bad old Ezra’s gold.
