The Child Within LW Barker Started This Thread
I enter my room and walk over to my mirror.
As I stand there, looking at myself,
I can't help but feel sad as I remember,
those wonderful days being a child;
Days now gone forever as if they were a dream.

I can still see him though;
He is still there, somewhere within.
I can still make out his features,
and his delicate wondering eyes.
His young face still permeates through mine;
Though mine has aged, his still remains the same.

Sometimes, I get urges more childlike than ever;
To jump on my bed and bounce up and down.
And I know he is there within me,
As lively and playful as ever.

I love poems like this that are reminiscent of past times...It seems like this poem is a part of you that is still present but due to the ideas of society and unwritten rules you are forced to contain this to only an image and memory...very nice work

Ahhhhhhhh. This was a nice and smooth read, that instantly brings about a smile. I think at times we do stop and go back in time alittle, or look in yesterday's mirror. This was breezy. Go ahead, go jump off the bed!
Wonderful write!!!!

LOL @ PAUL - Somehow I don't think this piece is about invisible friends, though I can see how one would think invisibility is a fact of life

ANYWAY:

Good morning LW - I am really liking the vybe of this poetic gem you've shared with us. Sometimes it's like I can see my reflection as I walk past a store window and think to myself "Who the hell is that?"

So - yes - I can appreciate this piece, as I strive to never ever loose my self!

Thanx for sharing - BTW - I'd love to know your inspiration for writing this poem!

Jacquii.

“I do use powerful words to evoke emotion, but also to stimulate imagination. If one can 'see' the words dance before
his eyes - then he can likely feel, smell and even taste them as well. And I do thoroughly enjoy really tasty poems.
My poetry is an emotions-fest sprinkled with a little garlic salt, Mrs. Dash, fresh ginger and Tabasco sauce...
My poetry is like a piece of General Tso's chicken tossed in ghetto soul.” ---
