Standing at the crossroad of life is where

We all find out just who and what we are

We simply must believe the answer there

~

Where to find the love of our life so rare?

That which all of life’s troubles cannot bar

Standing at the crossroad of life is where

~

When we behold the truth so very fair

Beauty so deep nothing on Earth can mar

We simply must believe the answer there

~

If all we can hear is “better beware”

Where are we and how did we get this far?

Standing at the crossroad of life is where

~

If part of the dream is our soul to bare

To fulfill the wishing upon that star

We simply must believe the answer there

~

Sometimes even the boxer can not swear

If the fight is real or simply a spar

Standing at the crossroad of life is where

We simply must believe the answer there

~

Life is always a challenge to be taken, isn't it? Nice poem, Kit.

Greetings Kit:

Too true. The crossroads of life is a road we all must face. As we travel each path, It teaches us so many things. And believing the answers we seek down the crossroads of life will fullfill our desires and dreams, although while searching, Many obsticles block our quest. As we continue on our way we find we can climb over them. sometimes easy sometimes not. But the heart of not giving up strenghthen our desire to keep going.
Thanks so very much for sharing your reality and perfect Villanelle poem!!

Kit, again another nice one.

I have been at those crossroads and sometimes have taken the wrong road, a good thing there is another crossroad just around the next bend.

Nice rhythem.

Hey Kit,
Thank you for the welcome! I/We are actually new to Knoxville, about five months. We moved here from Ca. It's a big difference so far, but I like living a slower pace. I am hoping to get into writing a little more. I've always enjoyed writing, just didn't have the time. I really like your poem, "The Crossroad of Life". It actually reminds me of where I am in my life--at the crossroads of life... You are so right too...one must believe that the answer(s) are there. I do believe they are, and so I have hope for a better tomorrow. Sometimes life can seem like there are not any good things in it. But in the midst of the sorrow, there is always a light of goodness and joy. I look forward to hearing from you again Kit. Have a great day!

Cindy

Exactly, but we have to be able to see it or it doesn't help, lol. Thanks for the comment.

Welcome to East Tennessee! You'll find it very friendly. I have lived in Southern Cal for a while myself. Hope you begin writing and posting...sounds like it could be a major crossroad.

I like the message of this poem. Your rhythm and word choice were also pretty good.

A little nit-pick; when used as a last line, your first line "standing at the crossroad of life is where" seems to be missing something ("the crossroad of life is where" what?) Perhaps you could pick up the sentence again in the first line of your next stanza?

Nice use of the villanelle form. I can't wait to read more of your work!

Yahoo! 360° - Kit Carson's Last Stand-Poems and ThoughtsNo need to wait, there are about seventy of them here and almost 350 of them on my Yahoo web site. The villanelle form leaves you tied to the lines in the first stanza...I played with this one long enough and finally released it...but I never could get the full message in that I wanted to convey, but got close enough for the reader to hopefully fill in their own situation. I find it amazing how one can reach one of these points and not even realize it until after it passes, and hope that you make the right choice.
