I Am Wolf~

~I AM WOLF~
I am a creature of the woods
whose spirit dances in the wind.
There I live in the wild so free,
just the moon, my pack and me.
I go way back with my Sioux and Cherokee friends
and just like them was nearly brought to an end
but, like them too my spirit lives on
in the mountains, winds and sunrise dawn.
My brothers and I chase the restless wind,
with a ferocious appetite on the prowl for prey.
Any rabbit or squirrel will get us by
but the white-tailed deer will really satisfy.
Although a concern of not enough to eat,
our biggest fear is the hunter's hand,
the one creature we will never understand,
that fierce killer who comes to disrupt our land.
We do not hesitate to protect what is ours,
the woods, our home, or the freedom we own.
When the hunter comes, that predator man,
one for all together as a pack we band.
Although wild outside with killer instincts,
inside we are gentle as our cousin, the dog.
Just like him, ever loyal we stand.
To defend our pack is our demand.
Friendly we could be if treated with respect.
Even a dog will attack under threat.
All we ask is that man let us be.
Our freedom is ours, oh can't you see?
For years we've cried for what man has done.
To the moon we howl together as one.
The whispering wind echoes our hearts cry
For the freedom and the numbers in which we die.
We were here before man and after should be.
God gave us our woods and a spirit free,
and you creature called man, that you can't deny.
In the distance I am wolf. Oh hear me cry!

Nightlife calls me.
Through her I am free.
It's the only way to be,
all caught up in a mystery!
Born with full moon fever,
I can make you a believer!
For I am the moonchild,
truly born to be wild!
