Mere Words
Somewhere beyond mere words
lie gestures of the heart
where spirit births desire
and love prepares its art.
Elusive to the mortal mind,
expressions are on hold;
only Angels ere' confess
the echo of the soul.
Each generation plans assault
through lofty vows pursued,
seeking but to claim embers
of what so oft eludes.
Folly follows good intent,
our best love yet acerb
as mortal tongues do contend
to capture love in word.
