Mystery of her Life

There was a time she didn’t think
of years come and gone.
golden sand, bare feet, a restless surf,
trinkets through a gift shop window.

Youth escaped blooming flowers,
venus flytrap, summer days, lemon Cool-Aid.
A named spelled in vibrant ice-plant,
a hwy billboard, Disneyland next exit.

Freedom and choice entwined
growing together a symbiotic existence.
Climbing geranium, ark the gate,
shade in cheerful pastel petals.

Necessity dictates existence.
Children steer the little engine
over the next mountain, through
the wasteland of mother’s youth.

Years now pressing like a vice
water the lawn, check the mail.
She’s still waiting for the letter
to solve the mystery of her life.

Dear Jolie,

This was a lyrical walk down memory lane. So delicate you have described the journey, so true, and honest. Of all the many life factors that come into play.....there is the ponder of where she still fits in into the universal picture. Then we realize that we are an Alpha female, all many generations, stories untold and unfolded began from us, we are the Earth. This was a fantabulous write Jolie, and I loved the vibrant words, play on words, and the intimate relation to the concept. LOVED IT and an excellent rating!!!

Thank you Kim. I like how this one turned out.

You didn't quote this verse, but it is one of my favorites.

"Necessity dictates existence.
Children steer the little engine
over the next mountain, through
the wasteland of mother’s youth."

I guess because when I was a little girl, my mother told me repeatedly the story of "The Little Engine that Could." That story has come to mind so many times in life when that mountain becomes steep to climb. "I think I can, I think I can, I know I can."

Thanks for your kind words and inspiration. You are so full of wisdom.

OMG Jolie, I thought I did quote that!! I am so sorry. Yes, when I read this, I thought of my Mother always encouraging me, and I thought of my nieces and my students, and me repeating my Mother's exact words, just recycled, lolol. One of my quotes that I made up is "I have seen far, because I have stood on the shoulders of Giants!", and that stanza in particular reminded me of that. Loved it Jolie! Look at you writing stories, poetry, and doing awesome artwork...you are amazing dahlink! lol....love ya!

Kim
