"Night Visitor"

As the tell tale heart was beating,
I had caught myself repeating,
At the rhythms that were fleeting,
When I walked across the floor.

It was then I heard the tapping,
And the constant rap, rap, rapping,
Like dry naked bones were clapping,
When I opened up the door.

A ghost was there just staring,
With its eyes so big and glaring,
There was no way of preparing,
What stood there before my sight.

Was it here to take me souling,
In the wind so cold and blowing,
'Neath the moon so full and glowing,
On this crisp October night?

In the moments that were slipping,
I had felt my heart skip-skipping,
Through the knob that I was gripping,
I was frightened to the core.

Then there came the errie laughter,
And I knew what it was after,
When its shouts had shook the rafter,
TRICK or TREAT and nothing more.

Wow!

Meter was strong and even throughout the entire poem! It was a pleasure to read! I would check, though, I think tell tale should be telltale. I think it's one word, not two.

The story, in the poem, was consistent throughout. It was easy and pleasurable (the meter was simply delicious) to read. Though it was a Halloween poem, it wasn't a corny, I'm going to scare you kind of poem, it was a fun poem.

Fun, enjoyable, and great even for a child to read.

Great job, Sally!

It's an absolute must to read the poem a second time. One CANNOT fully appreciate the wit and clever wording until they have read the 'punch line'. This is smooth and showcases the talents of an accomplished writer. I love humorous writes ... so thanks for a special "TREAT".

I read the back of a box of saltines once... the grammar, spelling and punctuation were letter perfect... the content, however, was a little bland for my taste.

Dear Sally,

I agree! The clever wording and beautifully executed meter and rhyme are just masterful...a joyous Hallows' Eve Tale that the family can read. Superb dahling! lol
