The Planet Mars.
~
Sitting one hot summer night
A velvet sky filled with trillions of stars
A planet glowing a brilliant red,
That is the Planet Mars.
~
In the month of August the planet
Appears close to Mother Earth
This year on August 27, 2007
It can be seen with the naked eye
The Moon and the Planet Mars.
~
An occurrence that only happens
Once every ten to fifteen years
For most a once in a lifetime sighting
Mars and the Moon amid trillions of stars,
I hope everyone will take a moment
To view this magnificent occurrence
~
So as you chat this August summer night,
Of life and of love amid the stars;
Watch for this glowing red star next to the Moon
That will be the planet Mars.

I knew about this but had forgotten!
Poems are so much easier to remember than plain facts.

Very Interesting Bear..... I love looking at the stars... and one day we will all be out there amongst the stars .... glimmering in the darkness ... a beacon for young artists, writers and poets of another age. Heres looking at you..... amongst the stars

Ohhhh Thank you so much for the reminder Honey Bear!

I LOVE star gazing I'm an avid night sky watcher. I have a BIG window to the stars from my front deck.
I will be sure and catch the sight of Mars and the Moon on the 27th.

Your poem was truly a wonderment of superb imagery as well. Thanks!

Bear,

Mars...the one planet that is most like ours! We should keep our eyes open for it! My Fav:

The Following Text Is Quoted:
Sitting one hot summer night
A velvet sky filled with trillions of stars
A planet glowing a brilliant red,
That is the Planet Mars.
Great Opening!

I wrote a poem about Mars too! I think I'll post it!

I love the line
A velvet sky filled with trillions of stars

It's been long since I looked up in the sky.
As Mr.Jerry said, nice way of opening,
I always have trouble opening, most of the times
I wrote a few lines first then think of the opening...
