Default The Speckled Meadowlark Sally Roberts Started This Thread
I heard a Speckled Meadowlark
up in a tree today,
And when it sang, my heart turned sad
before he flew away.
The path together, you and I,
we walked down side by side,
While holding hands I turned and asked,
"Will you become my bride?"

A bird sang sweetly from above,
the Speckled Meadowlark.
He brought us luck that special day
while standing in the park.
Remembering when our hearts were full
and happiness filled my life,
The love you'd give to me so dear
when you'd become my wife.

But then that day while on your way
to meet me at the gate,
You hadn't come when we had planned,
oh you were very late.
I waited there with all our friends
'til the sun fell in the sea,
A worried look stayed on my face
wondering where you could be.

Then dearest Dan came running in,
his face all filled with pain,
He told us how you swerved to miss
a drunk and hit a train.
The grass still grows up on the hill
where we both loved to go,
I walk up there most everyday,
and you just seem to know.

I've planted flowers by your grave
so you can clearly see,
that these are from the blossom bed,
the one you made for me.
One day I hope we'll meet again
together in the park,
and listen to those songs again
from the Speckled Meadowlark.

This is so beautiful, it makes me cry. This will for sure be a famous poem.
One nit:
In the last stanza, did you mean planted flowers ?

Thank you very much Jolie:

I am happy to know you enjoyed this poem. It was kinda like an instant thought about a meadowlark and then it transformed from there.
Thanks for noticing the sp er. I edited the word planted.

Blessings
