The Voice Of Silence
A new look at solving writer's block as "unwritten poetry" pleads to its poet to give it a voice.... hehe
The Voice of Silence
I am the voiceless silence
in the dark place of your mind.
Deep in dreams that fear to wake,
I'm shivers down your spine.
I churn within the inner storms
unfolding in your eyes.
Taste the tears upon your lips
and hear my silent cries.
I'm the itch deep in your bones —
the fire pulsing in your veins.
I'm time that's layered on your skin,
your future, unexplained.
I'm written on the walls of souls —
forgotten words of yesterday.
I'm unsung notes hushed in your throat,
and whispered prayers stashed away.
I'm words unspoken and unheard —
the seeds from which my voice could grow.
I tingle on your idle tongue
so, poet, let your passion flow.
My breath is in your pencil point,
my voice is in your poetry.
When you untangle silent things,
the unknown knows no boundaries.
Coax me from your random thoughts,
my messenger of choice,
reach gently in the silence there —
unleash my pent-up voice.

I love the "voice" of this piece, and the rhyme scheme. The voice is very wise and poetic and I love the fact that it is the inner voice or subconscious, if you will, that assists us in writing, if not write the poems themselves. The stanzas I quoted, really resonated with me, as they speak of an old "voice", like an old "soul," that everyone should listen to, especially the person to whom the "voice" belongs. Thank you for sharing this piece, as it is very inspiring.

Re: The Voice Of Silence
Greetings PaintedDiary and Altree,
I'm so happy to have readers!
This is actually one of my favorites. It was inspired by Simon and Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence".
Thank you both for your comments!

Re: The Voice Of Silence
I like this ,somewhere in the dark recesses of us ,it lurks, waiting to come forth. I really like the last verse, unleashing the inner voice, to rejoice.Thank you for the share

Re: The Voice Of Silence
Ah, SuzyQ;
what a wonderful way to look at solving that proverbial writer's block problem that many of us have to deal with. There is another twist to all that: once the poem surfaces, will it be read by others? Unread, a poem dies; but I'm sure, this one will remain alive in my mind. Great poem, Suzy. Perfectly rhymed.

Re: The Voice Of Silence
Well you certainly unleashed your voice.
Lovely rhythmic poem, that weaves a tapestry into so many arenas and expressions, of that silence.

Hi
I really enjoyed the flow of this poem. I think the perspective you took is very interesting and clever.
Anyways I enjoyed reading it!
