The Wind Blows
The wind blows twice its breath
to make the windsock dance
like a marionette escaping ties
to hands that make the people laugh.
They tell their story in French class
while shy pupils hide their face,
below the edge of the theatre
worn tennis shoes wear mistakes.
Nobody really cares, not really.
They hope the others are worse,
so they can have confidence
to stand before a crowd,
and the wind blows against the pane
in the night. The marionette taps
at the window asking to be let in
dressed as a soldier in camouflage.
He makes his way across the dresser
searching titles of books.
The wind blows twice its breath
and leaves fall out of time.
